Ford GT Supercar - a New Take on the Old Model

1. How It Came To Be

Ford is saying goodbye to the legendary GT with a new homage to a 1960s classic. One of the very first prototypes to roll off the line back in 1964 prompted Blue Oval to create a special Heritage Edition.

Ford's GT supercar, which debuted for the 2017 model year, has frequently paid tribute to Ford's Le Man's victories in the 1960s. Ford is creating yet another unique edition of the GT to commemorate its final year of manufacturing.

As the name suggests, the 2022 GT '64 Prototype Heritage Edition pays homage to the first GT prototypes responsible for launching the Ferrari-rivaling GT40 project in 1964 and making a big entrance to be one of the first-ever and only American-made rides to win the Le Mans.

When you look at the prototype, the over-the-roof racing stripe is in a narrower shape, and it's combined with a Wimbledon Whitecoat and Antimatter Blue hood. Not only that, with this new model, the manufacturer has given it a brand new carbon fiber armor

Carbon fiber components such as the front splitter, side sills, and mirror stalk are all painted the same shade of blue. Lastly, the GT-exclusive carbon fiber rims with silver and black Brembo calipers and black lug nuts stand out against the blue spokes of the wheels' rim.

The front splitter, side sills, and mirror stalk are all painted the same shade of blue, as are the carbon fiber components. It's also worth noting the GT-exclusive carbon rims, which include Brembo brakes in silver and black with black lug nuts.

Similar to the outside, the inside is striking, but for a different reason:

  • Most of the controls are confined to the race-car-inspired steering wheel. Once you're inside, you'll find that the driver's seat isn't adjustable.
  • Because the driver was sitting in a fixed seat, Ford engineers designed a steering wheel and pedals that could be adjusted to suit his or her height and posture.
  • In addition to the instrument cluster, a digital display is fitted into the suede-wrapped dashboard to manage the infotainment features.

3. The Power of Ford GT Supercar

Unlike the previous-generation GT's supercharged V-8 engine, the new Ford GT supercar is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine identical to the one used in the Ford F-150 Raptor.

The V-6 engine produces 660 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. While the previous version that was tested had a few less horsepower, it still boasted supercar-worthy acceleration times. The GT is surprisingly simple to drive, and the large car feels light and nimble from behind the wheel.
