Our carbon fiber and leather Apple Watch bands are handmade by a single leather craftsman in Colombia using only the finest materials. We use a full-grain leather sourced from a tannery near Armenia, Colombia. We also use real carbon fiber, the same material that was once reserved for the likes of racing, aerospace, and military. We'll get into more detail below.
Typically, carbon fiber is a rigid material, which isn't great for a watch band. The CarboBand uses a unique carbon fiber that is infused with TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) to allow it to remain flexible. This proprietary carbon fiber is made by a Washington-based company in the USA whose specialty is flexible carbon fiber, their material is used by other companies such as Nike and Tumi.
For the buckle of our carbon fiber Apple Watch strap, we take a 3mm thick piece of solid carbon fiber and CNC machine it to create both the tongue and buckle itself. We use a semi-gloss carbon fiber, which has a great appearance but is also durable and resistant to most scratching. Here's a glimpse of how it's made:
Each CarboBand arrives in a styling black leather case with a button enclosure and stamped Carbon Fiber Gear logo.
