Carbon fiber is thousands of carbon filaments, each thinner than a human hair, woven into a fabric and set in resin. The finished material is up to five times stronger than steel at a fraction of the weight, and it does not corrode.
That combination is why it is used on aircraft, in Formula One, and now on the things you carry every day. It is also why no two weaves look quite alike: the pattern is structural, not printed on.
