HKS: A Leading Tuning Part Manufacturer
HKS is a car tuning part manufacturer based in Japan, focusing on improving cars’ driving experience, performance, and comfort.
Since its establishment, HKS has been at the forefront of the automotive aftermarket industry, constantly developing innovative components to enhance a car’s configuration. Their products include engine, cooling, electronic, suspension, and exhaust systems designed to turn a regular vehicle into an “ultimate all-rounder.”
The company’s philosophy is centered around the belief that cars should provide drivers with an enjoyable driving experience, even on winding roads.
As such, HKS is renowned for its engineering excellence and high-quality, reliable parts that withstand the hardcore rigors of driving. To make it happen, they use cutting-edge technology for their products, ensuring they are the best in the industry.
Nissan Skyline GTR: Aged Like Fine Wine
The Nissan Skyline GTR is iconic and has left a mark on the automotive world.
Although its production was discontinued over two decades ago, its legacy and impact remain indelible. This car was ferocious and ahead of its time, featuring advanced technology and stunning performance unmatched in its era.
As a domestic car in Japan (JDM), the Skyline GTR was manufactured exclusively for the Japanese market, making it even more valuable among car enthusiasts and collectors. Also, the fact that the car cannot be manufactured anywhere else in the world adds to its allure and rarity, making it a sought-after item that holds its value over time.
After decades, the Nissan Skyline GTR has aged like fine wine, becoming a timeless legend that remains fast even by today’s standards. In theory, the stock Skyline GTR can’t compete with today’s sports cars because it only has about 300 horsepower. However, remember that it has all-wheel drive and weighs only 3,400 pounds. So it’s no wonder the Skyline GTR can do 0-60 mph in as low as 5 seconds, with a claimed top speed of 155 mph.
New RB26 Engine Is Pre-preg Carbon Fiber
The modified RB26 engine made from pre-preg carbon fiber for the Nissan Skyline GTR is an innovation that pushes the boundaries of automotive engineering.
In particular, carbon fiber piping and air box are significant developments that increase heat conduction efficiency within the engine. Carbon has low heat conduction properties, making it a perfect insulator. Thus, it prevents heat transfer from the engine to the rest of the vehicle, reducing the temperature while operating. The result is a more efficient engine with better performance and durability, allowing longer distances without overheating.
Only a few cars have carbon fiber engines in the current automotive market. Some that do must be on the highest end of the list.
For example, the Hennessey Venom F5 is one of the few cars with a carbon fiber engine. This hypercar has a twin-turbo V8 engine entirely constructed from carbon fiber, making it extremely lightweight and efficient. In addition, the Lamborghini Sian also features a carbon fiber intake manifold, which improves the car’s aerodynamics.
The common ground among cars with carbon fiber engines is that they are all hypercars that inherit the most innovative technologies.
However, the RB26 engine of the Skyline GTR, modified with carbon fiber piping and an air box, is a “game-changer” in the industry despite its old age. Carbon fiber technology makes high-performance cars more efficient, faster, and more durable than ever.
To clarify how this engine can have a massive impact, remember that HKS wants the new RB26 to consume less fuel at 20 km/l while still producing 600 horsepower and powerful torque. Therefore, all the technology HKS has poured into it must work in tandem, including the two-chamber carbon/aluminum intake plenum, a dual injector, twin V-CAM, electronic wastegate control, and an electric single-throttle body.
To Be Exhibited at Tokyo Auto Salon 2023
The exhibition of the Nissan Skyline GTR with a new carbon fiber RB26 engine at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2023 was an exciting event that drew the attention of car enthusiasts worldwide. The car was on exhibition from the 13th to the 15th of January, 2023, so visitors could look closely at its design and operation.
The Tokyo Auto Salon 2023 has proven that the reputation of the Nissan Skyline GTR as one of the most excellent Japanese sports cars ever made continues to grow, cementing its place as an icon that will always be remembered.
Meanwhile, using carbon fiber in the new engine improves the car’s performance, efficiency, and durability. As more manufacturers adopt carbon technology, we can expect a new wave of high-performance vehicles that push the boundaries of what is possible.
