Look at the front plate on a car that has been through a couple of winters. Chipped paint where gravel found it, a registration sticker lifting at one corner, and the whole thing reading older than the car it is bolted to. The clear covers sold to prevent that are usually acrylic, which is the cheapest clear plastic on the shelf, and it gets picked for that reason and not for what it does in sunlight.

Since 2007 we have specialized in carbon fiber, and this is the shield we put behind our own frames. It is 1/16 inch polycarbonate with a UV and scratch-resistant coating, guaranteed for four years of exterior use. The panel is flat, not domed, so it goes between the plate and whatever frame is already on the car instead of requiring one of its own. Four holes at standard US spacing line up with a four-hole mount, and on a two-hole car it hangs from the top pair, the same screws the frame is already using. Made in the USA.
