New Hyundai N Cars Make Carbon Fiber Wheels an Option to Maximize Efficiency

Hyundai N: Track Performance on Everyday Cars

Established in 2012, Hyundai N stands as the high-performance sub-brand division of Hyundai, bringing forth a thrilling fusion of cutting-edge engineering and driving exhilaration. The letter “N” signifies a twofold essence.

Firstly, it pays homage to the Namyang district in South Korea, the birthplace of Hyundai’s Global Research & Development Center, where the brand’s inception occurred. Secondly, it draws inspiration from the Nürburgring racetrack in Germany, home to Hyundai’s European Technical Center and the arena where all N models are tested to perfection.

Debuting in 2016 with the i30 N, Hyundai N embarked on redefining vehicles. Since then, the brand has expanded its portfolio, manifesting its commitment to diverse levels.

The i20 N, i30 N, Veloster N, Elantra N, Kona N, and the flagship Ioniq 5 N exemplify a spectrum spanning compact dynamism to alluring electric prowess.

As of 2023, Hyundai N stands as a testament to Hyundai’s unwavering dedication to pushing boundaries. This sub-brand has solidified Hyundai’s position among enthusiasts, redefining perceptions and setting new benchmarks in the automotive world.

Dymag: Leader in Race-standard Carbon Fiber Wheels

Dymag has epitomized innovation and excellence in high-tech car wheel manufacturing for nearly five decades. Since its inception in 1974, the company has been a trailblazer, consistently pushing the limits of wheel design and engineering.

Its journey began with a pioneering spirit, introducing magnesium wheels and later achieving a milestone in 1995 by crafting the world’s first carbon fiber wheels.

Dymag’s influence spans various vehicles, from road cars to motorbikes, leaving an indelible mark on the automotive and motorsport industries. With a history of participating in racing series, including F1, Le Mans, and World Rally Championship on four wheels, as well as MotoGP and the legendary Isle of Man on two, Dymag has consistently set new performance and durability standards on the track.

Today, Dymag is a global leader in carbon fiber wheel supply. Collaborating with esteemed vehicle manufacturers like Hyundai N, Dymag continues to shape the future of wheel technology, providing car enthusiasts with the pinnacle of craftsmanship.

Future Hyundai N Will Come With Dymag Carbon Wheels

The automotive world is about to evolve with the debut of carbon fiber wheels on future Hyundai N cars. This groundbreaking feat results from a strategic partnership among Hyundai N, composites material specialists Hankuk Carbon, and Dymag.

The culmination of this alliance manifested in the launch of a revolutionary prototype, the N Performance carbon hybrid wheel, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2023. The 641-hp Ioniq 5 N high-performance EV crossover was positioned alongside the debut, which signaled the dawn of a new era for Hyundai electric cars.

However, due to costs, carbon fiber wheels might be limited to the upscale Ioniq 5 N. This feature could remain absent on the lower-range Kona, Elantra, or Veloster, as it aligns with a track-oriented offering rather than economically viable across the entire range.

Will the Hyundai N Perform Better With Carbon Fiber Wheels?

Lighter

The N Performance carbon hybrid wheels fuse a carbon fiber outer rim with a forged metallic center. The marriage of these materials bequeaths the best attributes of each, resulting in a weight reduction of up to 50% compared to traditional aluminum wheels.

Stronger

This technology doesn’t just shed weight; it diminishes rolling inertia, heightens stiffness, and fortifies strength. Moreover, the reduction of gyroscopic force not only elevates steering responsiveness but also enhances overall handling.

Safer

Safety is enhanced through the flexibility and resilience of the carbon hybrid wheel, allowing it to bend and rebound on intense loads or sharp impacts, in contrast to the permanence of deformation or fragmentation witnessed in one-piece aluminum wheels.

Quieter

This technological leap also harmonizes with the vehicle’s acoustics, dampening Noise Vehicle Harshness (NVH) for a silent driving experience.

Larger

As anticipation builds, the forthcoming months promise to reveal the full specifications of the N Performance wheels, available in sizes ranging from 18 to 23 inches, with 24 and 25-inch options slated for later in the year.

How Much Will the Carbon Fiber Wheels Option Cost?

The cost of carbon fiber wheels on Hyundai N cars is a captivating point of interest. Typically priced between $15,000 to $20,000 as an optional extra, these components can now be more accessible at $12,000 per set, thanks to Dymag’s patented technology.

Considering the standard Hyundai Ioniq 5 N’s starting price of around $60,000, including these carbon hybrid wheels could increase the base MSRP by around 20% for forthcoming N models. This cost-conscious approach seeks to make the allure of high-performance carbon fiber wheels attainable to a broader spectrum of enthusiasts, reflecting a strategic balance between innovation and accessibility.

Bottom Line

The carbon fiber wheels on Hyundai N cars will signify a breakthrough.

By redefining driving dynamics, it heralds an era of outstanding performance and pushes the boundaries of engineering. This innovation exemplifies Hyundai N’s commitment to making a driving experience that’s not just elevated but also transformative, solidifying its position at the forefront of high-performance automotive excellence.
