We appreciate your feedback (even though you didn't have the best experience), but I wanted to at the very least reply and let you know what's going on.
First, that's an amazing piece you have, very jealous! It would have been very cool to have a phone case that was a complete match to your AP.
So the material on your watch and in our case is identical (Forged Carbon - which is chopped carbon fibers mixed with a resin that are then compressed into a mold to create the shape). On your watch, it looks like the forged carbon casing was removed in the mold and used as-is. That's why you get more of that matte, slightly textured appearance. In this phone case, we take it a step further and add a layer of clear coat on top of that, which gives it a smooth and glossy finish.
Lamborghini, which is a brand that now commonly uses it the same technique, does both (https://www.lamborghini.com/en-en/brand/innovation-excellence/forged-composites). Typically on the exterior panels of the car, you'll find they are clear coated (glossy/smooth) because it helps protect the panel from UV exposure, which would eventually breakdown and yellow the resin which keeps the fibers together.
You mentioned on the inside of our case there is a plastic backer, that is correct. We are using the Forged Carbon here strictly for aesthetic reasons to keep the costs down (remember, your watch is 5-figures), so it's not playing a structural role...rather more of a veneer. If we did a structural forged carbon version of this case, it would be many many times more expensive, and out of reach for most consumers, which we opted against.
With all that said, you are more than welcome to return the case for a refund per our return policy. Just head to returns.carbonfibergear.com and follow the instructions, we just want you to be happy :) Hope that helped explained a little better what our case is all about, and please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly if you need any more help or further clarification (we geek out about this stuff!).
