This started as a list of things worth owning. This one we found, and it never came off.

Black and gray aramid twill with the same look as carbon fiber, wrapped from the back onto the sides, and non-conductive, so the phone's signal passes straight through.

Why you'll love it

Six things worth knowing.

  • Twill on the sides tooBlack and gray 600D aramid with the same look as carbon fiber wraps from the back onto the sides, thermoformed with TPU into one piece.
  • Tested at 1.22 metersThat is PITAKA's MIL-STD-810H drop test for the Summa, with resin in the aramid for strength and TPU beneath it to cushion the landing.
  • Fingerprints wipe offA coating keeps the twill visible and the case smooth in hand. A damp cloth or an alcohol pad clears whatever it picks up.
  • Presses like the bare phoneReinforced glass covers Camera Control, and PITAKA tests it so the button registers a press the same way the phone does on its own.
  • Charges through the caseThe built-in magnet ring lines up MagSafe chargers and holds MagSafe wallets, grips and mounts without taking the case off.
  • No signal penaltyAramid is non-conductive, unlike carbon fiber, so the case won't get between the antennas and the network the way an all-carbon case can.

The Pro Max is the phone that does everything: directions, photos, the movie on the flight home. Then it goes into a rubber case grabbed off a rack because it was there, and the thing you look at more than anything else you own ends up looking like everyone else's.

Since 2007 we have specialized in carbon fiber, and PITAKA's Summa earned its place here on the weave. The case is 600D aramid, a high-performance composite fiber from the same family as carbon fiber, with Kevlar as one brand of it, woven in a black and gray twill with the same look. Aramid doesn't conduct electricity, which matters on a phone: an all-carbon case can weaken reception, and this one stays out of the way of cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. PITAKA fuses resin into the fiber, thermoforms it over a TPU layer that wraps the back and sides, and coats the surface so the twill shows through and wipes clean. They drop-test it from 1.22 meters under MIL-STD-810H. With it on, Camera Control still presses through reinforced glass, and the magnet ring in the back takes MagSafe chargers, wallets and mounts without the case coming off.

Built for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, it also goes on a 17 Pro Max, with a small gap around the camera ring. Add it to your cart and give the phone you use most a case worth looking at.

01 / 03

Same look as carbon fiber

Aramid is the fiber family that includes Kevlar. It has carbon fiber's aesthetic, but it doesn't conduct electricity, so it won't get between your phone and its signal.

02 / 03

Tested from 1.22 meters

PITAKA drops the Summa under the MIL-STD-810H method. Resin fused into the aramid adds strength, and a TPU layer underneath cushions the landing.

03 / 03

Camera Control, under glass

Reinforced glass covers the button instead of an open cutout, and a light press still registers the way it does on the bare phone.

Questions people ask

4 questions

Yes. It is cut for the iPhone 18 Pro Max and also fits the 17 Pro Max. On the 17, PITAKA notes a small gap around the camera ring, since the two phones differ slightly in size and camera height. The reverse is the one to avoid: a 17 Pro Max case on an 18 Pro Max sits too low around the lenses to protect them.

Yes. A magnet ring is built into the back, so MagSafe chargers line up and charge through the case, and standard wireless chargers work too. MagSafe wallets, grips and car mounts attach the same way. Aramid doesn't conduct electricity, so the case does not interfere with cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or NFC, and tap to pay works with it on.

Yes. The button sits under reinforced glass, and PITAKA tests the cases so a press registers as it does on the bare phone. If you want it lighter or firmer, go to Settings, then Camera, Camera Control, Accessibility and Light-Press Force.

No. It is aramid fiber, the family Kevlar belongs to, woven in a twill with the same look as carbon fiber. That matters on a phone: carbon fiber conducts electricity, so a case made entirely of it can weaken reception. Aramid doesn't conduct, so the signal passes through. Carbon is the stiffer fiber; aramid is known for toughness, which is why it turns up in protective gear.
